[TechSpot] Steam improves its Search function with new filters

Quote:
Some of the new filters include searching for games by setting a maximum price or opting to see special offers only. Users can hide ignored items, those on their wishlist, and any in their library. It’s also possible to exclude VR-only games, which will be appreciated by those who don’t own a virtual reality headset, and there’s even a language filter control for those using anything other than English.

Possibly the most useful new Search feature is the ability to include and exclude tags. Searches will show a preview of how many results will be returned, and you can tailor the results to your own tastes—Valve notes it’s possible, for example, to search for survival games but exclude the horror and zombie genres.

Finally, Search now has an infinite scroll, meaning no more having to click through pages. If you’re not a fan of this feature, the older paginated view can be selected in the Store Preferences.

Finally! So overdue. Being able to filter out all the indie garbage will be great when looking for something new to play.

Too bad they will never add a search by % of discount. I'd buy a lot more games if I paid attention to them when they are on sale.

Now add a zoom function to the store so I can see it on my 4k screen.

There are external web pages to search the catalog in various ways. Also pages that show you the prices per region which can be really upsetting as the prices at times vary greatly. And other sites that provide discounts and deals.

Tried the new search out, as useless as before. It doesn't even know the difference between simulation and arcade.

I just got home and had a chance to check for myself. While there is room for improvement, I can confirm that you can now filter out indie games, or any other tags. Just being able to filter out indie games is enough to make browsing the steam store a drastically less tedious task.

pretty sure there are sites dedicated to better structuring deal visibility.

wasn't that already there? you've been able to customize what steam will try to sell you for awhile now, in your profile settings. feel like I remember seeing it a few months back and toggling off all greenlight/early access content.

Add me on Steam, same name
