[TechSpot] New GPU acceleration patch for Adobe Premiere Pro makes video encoding much faster

Source: https://www.techspot.com/news/85296-...pro-makes.html

Quote:
Hardware acceleration in Premiere Pro is nothing new. It has been using Nvidia CUDA for acceleration for a while now. Version 14.2 incorporates Nvidia's Nvencode API to utilize the video card's hardware-based NVENC encoder. Likewise, the patch will use the VCE hardware encoder on AMD GPUs. Both will significantly improve export times over using the CPU alone, especially when working with 4K video.

"These improvements are the result of years of collaboration between Nvidia and Adobe to deliver high-quality applications and tools to creators," said Adobe's Senior Engineering Manager Manish Kulkarni. "With new support for NVIDIA GPUs on Windows, exports are hardware accelerated leveraging the power of the GPU to make Premiere Pro more powerful and keep video creators productive and nimble."

Has Adobe finally reached parity with Vegas Pro when it comes to encoding speed?

I'm fairly sure that Adobe doesn't realize that there are other companies making cpu's and gpu's besides Intel and Nvidia.

In the quote of the OP, the question would be if they would have supported this if Apple didn't use AMD GPUs.

I didn't actually read all of it. I have grown frustrated with Adobe, but I still use them since they keep extending my membership for free every time I try to cancel it. I'm glad to see they they are finally moving beyond nvidia though. They may even catch up to their competition at some point.

Especially as the 5700(XT) matches the 2080Ti in rendering and encoding according to Puget Systems.

This is more like who has the people and resources to trow around for company to develop for their hardware, and less about the software company pushing for this. From what I'm seeing AMD is not currently interested or not able to spend development time to improve their encoder and work with software companies to optimize for their GPUs.

Nothing in Puget's review properly used Turing features. We'll need to wait to see a benchmark comparison between OptiX vs ProRender and NVENC vs VCE. All the current reviews I've seen about VCE didn't seem to utilize it properly. Hopefully With Adobe Premiere Pro utilizes it properly or is it another broken issue in their architecture similar to NGG on Vega 10?
