The Internet in theory could be taken down, but as previously said the nature of the internet makes it next to impossible. This as such applies for the world - which in its own nature is almost impossible to take over by own person or force - there are far too many factions and forces in the world for this feat to be possible.

On the internet a permanent war between the Black and White Hats makes the internet a dangerous place to be - especially if ur a kid - sad black hat hackers and advertising companies plant all sorts of crud on kids sites. Even if one of the Factions were to become victorius then there would still be geurilla fighters still fighting on !

Bill Gates probably could take most of the people off the internet (not destroy it) add a mandatory windows patch which screws up the coding and wouldn't allow the ethernet jacks or wireless to work and somehow unfixable by making if that code is changed the hard drive is formatted, that way only other operating systems would be online, and despite windows sucking, there isn't an operating system that could hold a candle to window's amounts of users. Taking down the internet would be a fun challenge for hackers and stuff, then about 20 minutes after they completed halfway through celebrating they would be like, "Lets all check the news sites to see how its affecting... oh ****, what did we do?".

Upgrades
A rebuilt/working computer... (hopefully)

You could destroy the internet if you destroy the people who use it ^^.

Some examples that come to mind:

Giant Godzilla comes and exterminates the human race.

Intergalactic comet from the Oort Cloud makes a deep impact on earth and wipes out every living species on the planet in one giant event of sterilization.

No people = no internet

List of updates to do by summer: (1) New PSU: Seasonic S12 600W, (2) New OCZ Phase change or WC, (3) Sleeve cables: white, (4) 1 More 12" CCFL, (5) Some dremel action: circular side window

That's one way of looking at it! Not quite sure it's what the original post in this thread was getting at, but hey, it's still a valid point of view! Nice lateral thinking there this_barb!

I cant believe anyone would believe this BS. This news is for n00bs that do not know anything about computers. I asked my friend, he is a very very talented programmer and he knows everything about the internet and he said that is the dumbest thing he has ever heard.
