Is this true? That's unfortunate. I am interested in the tech, and it sounds like they are trying to improve the game mechanics and not just make it a total run and gun shooter, but this steampunk WWII BS is just garbage..

But instead ... they shut it down
I built my first dedicated gaming PC for BF2 as well. In all honesty I tried to come back to the series for BF3 and BF4 but it's too far gone for me.

2142 was as far as classes should have been reworked. I loved the BF2 class system as it gave everyone a niche. Now you can fight vehicles using just about any class using C4 or nades. 2142 collapsed the classes from 7 to 4 but at least they still needed a specialization.

The unlock system also became incredibly cumbersome. Everyone used to get basically the same gear. Now you might have to grind 1000 hours to get everything someone with a Pay to Win (TM) version of the game gets on day 1. A lot of my friends who still play end up spending hundreds of dollars getting the Digital Supreme Deluxe and then shelling out for all the map pack DLC. It's a cancerous game model designed to prey on customer loyalty.

Maybe the sales tax was a premium reward for ordering the deluxe edition lol.

When 4 of the 6 games in my active Origin library are BF titles.....you really have to go above and beyond to get me to cancel a BF title. As a fan since day 1 of BF1942, I have completely written off the franchise.

I think the 85% lower preorders then COD and stock analysis anticipating a bomb have to do with this. I think you're going to see a massive last minute retool in advertising, and they're going to bank on hype caused by a black friday release to float their title a bit better then launching it around the time the COD game hits the shelf.

The 85% lower pre-order article is from a firm that tracks Amazon's pre-orders only. Amazon doesn't even have BFV physical copies available yet and BO4 required a pre-order to even play the beta, a large sum of those were canceled right after the beta launched anyways.
BO4 will decimate BFV's in terms of units sold as usual but I think the delay was a smart move, competing against RDR and CoD in the same launch window is a bad idea and it gives them more time to polish the game and hopefully get their marketing together as mentioned.

A lot of references to BF2 in this thread.

For me, BF2 was the death knell of the Battlefield series, not it's pinnacle. Sprint gauges (especially ones that have trained soldiers falling well short of my own capabilities), inability to sidestep while running, and ranking/unlocks of any sort are anathema to me for this genre. I played a fair bit of BF2, some BF2142, quite a bit of America's Army, and way too much Planetside 2, but all pale in comparison to the sort of experiences I had before unlocks were a thing. I just can't play shooters where there is anything that even resembles a 'grind' anymore...I'm not sure how it's supposed to add value either. I put more hours into games like Tribes 2 and the original BF1942 than I've spent in all other shooters since.

Anyway, BFV stands out as unfocused and I'm not surprised it's being delayed. Never seriously considered playing it though, so I don't have any horse in this race.

...rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual. -- Thomas Jefferson

Games with the "Destiny" business model can go die in a fire
BF1942 and Desert Combat Mod were the pinnacle of multiplayer shooter gaming IMHO

I could not get into BF2 as a CS player. Loved BF3 though.
