I'd argue those are separate genres/fanbase. I personally have no interest in SWBF or RDR (console) atm. I'd say BF still has the backlash from the RT demo, thank you nvidia. The recent map trailer looked amazing, but based on playing the beta i was left unsure regarding gameplay. Heavy tweaks have been made to the game since, so who knows, maybe DICE *fixed the game. I dont think its a coincidence the launch drops close to black friday. Imo, EA shouldve pulled an Activision, no single player and have BR @ launch, but thats just me. Anyone owning an RTX card is going to be wondering how much of a stutterfest the game will run on DX12.

I agree. Pretty sad when the CALLADOODY people do something right. SP is not EA DICE's strength and needs to be cut entirely from any future releases.

Bad Company 2 had a great single player. And BF4's single player was also alot of fun though a bit short.
BF1 though... crap single player campaign and over way too quickly.

The thing about absolutisms is that I can go ask some other guy the same question and I'll get a completely different answer. In fact, it's well documented on this very forum that a considerable amount of people thought BF1's campaign was great.

So, as a comment on this kind of post, it really doesn't matter what you think about the SP. It's a game of revenue from SP customers vs dev cost.

They certainly lost that game.
BF1's single player was wasted drive space and a pointless use of development time/cost. It barely contributed to the overall experience, included elements which didnt feature in the multiplayer, used (in some cases) radically different statistics for weapons and vehicles compared to multiplayer, and unlike previous titles it didnt offer any tangible reward for use in multiplayer (woooo... a few skins which no one would ever use and no doubt were traded in for a few scraps).

If you're playing a campaign for the multiplayer rewards, I'm not sure you're the target audience. Playing the SP is supposed to be its own reward.

In regard to the rest you mentioned, I don't see how it's relevant to the assessment of the legitimacy of the mode. And the "wasted drive space [...] barely contributed to the overall experience" part is certainly too subjective.

Battlefront 2 was dead out of the gates. It was one of the biggest pre-launch disasters to ever grace the gaming industry. They tried resurrecting it by removing the loot boxes, pay 2 win progression system, and hero unlocking. It did grow a little as time went on (still growing since new free content has released).

Battlefield 5 is a much different story. It is starting where Battlefront 2's fixes ended up. Free DLC that doesn't split the player base, no loot boxes, cosmetic only microtransactions, non-linear progress system, no p2w items, they even delayed to polish the game and tweak it... Theoretically BF5 should do much better than the last couple releases- that is, unless my theory about people's tastes just changing is correct and you will begin to see ridiculous critiques and excuses for why no one is playing the game as all the low hanging fruit have been picked.

i doubt that considering how much off the preorders were. BF1 was nearly same as COD preorders, then BF5 with their "superb" marketing campaign got to 85% off preorder numbers of COD title. yes the backlash was that big that they got only 15% of preorders that COD got

Maybe people just wised up and realized pre-ordering things are dumb

While it isn't a good thing pre-orders are down (for EA), the game can still sell well. Money a month early really doesn't matter all that much.
