Valve is a crappy company. They do nothing and everyone kisses their.. feet. The amount of gamer loyalty they maintain is completely undeserved. I would jump over to Epic and buy all my games there from now on if the epic store works well and seems to be stable. 30% is too high, Valve doesn't do anything to justify that cost, they just haven't had any real competition yet but as soon as they do, it's going to be a rude awakening to Valve when suddenly no devs want to use their overpriced store anymore. If steam were as great as people think, EA and Ubisoft wouldnt have made their own platforms to avoid being price gouged by valve.

Valve is a digital store, meaning they have no rent to pay for shops, they dont have to pay retail employee or any of that yet they still charge about as much as a retail store would just to sell things. Ebay is also a digital store, and they only take 10%. Valve should be more like Ebay. 30% fees for a digital store are just greedy and unjustified.

To me this is nothing but good news, and I hope more devs ditch steam for something like the Epic store that has a much more fair pricing structure.

They pay A LOT of rent/upkeep/people to keep their high power servers and network connections up and running. You are crazy if you think they aren't spending a pretty penny on the digital services that they provide.

Why can't games just be downloaded and launched without a launcher?

Well was looking forward to this game. Won’t be buying it now.

Sick and tired of having 12 million unnecessary apps, store fronts, installers, drm.... Soon I’ll be renting my toothbrush. I understand why this is a good thing for competition on the digital front, but just no.

WTB hard copy without DRM and third party storefront/app please. Same reason I still haven’t played yooka laylee on switch, no hard copy, no purchase!

Valves response:

Quote:
Later today, sales of Metro Exodus will be discontinued on Steam due to a publisher decision to make the game exclusive to another PC store. The developer and publisher have assured us that all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam. We think the decision to remove the game is unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period. We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale through the February 15th release date, but we were only recently informed of the decision and given limited time to let everyone know.

That'll be the day. I managed to get GTA V on disk, but I occasionally not only have to login but occasionally go thru captcha security to play a freakin' video game!

Stupid move. Locking the product to that store will mean way fewer sales.
I was looking forward to buying it. Now I refuse.
Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly like having Steam dominate the market.
But exclusive locking is only going to merit my ire. Sorry, I already have enough stupid accounts I have to log in to.
Should have sold it on both platforms but discounted it on the Epic store.
Oh well.

But how does one launch without a launcher? Mind blown.

I'm not really seeing the issue. I wouldn't want to loose 30% of my profits to steam and there's not really any issues I've ever seen with Epics launcher. If you don't want it running just disable it just like I do with all launchers.
Steam, Epic and Blizzard are only running when I launch a game off the platform.
I can imagine it's an issue if you use one email for everything but who does that?
@icehotshot .exe ftw!
