Pretty sure there are some indie games that are exclusive to Steam, but that's not because of some anti-consumer deal.

Didn't the last CoD switch from Steam to Battle.net exclusive? And while you might find a key for sale elsewhere you're still getting a platform specific key and the game is locked to that platform. To me it's been going on for ages and no point to single out Epic.

The difference here is that Activision and Blizzard share the same mother company(ies), while, at least to my knowledge, Deep Silver and Epic don't.

I don't get why games can't be on all stores and people choose what to use for themselves
If you wanna be competitive have the better platform it's that simple
for me Epic Launcher is a disgusting piece of **** that is not user friendly and is completely clunky and the social features are garbage
Steam on the other hand is like the gold standard for me
I don't get how you can even put both in the same category
I like battle.net launcher as well but it feels battle.net is made for just a couple of games which is what it is used for atm
But it can't work for a massive library like steam is or epic trying to be
I just want 1 ******* launcher that I like and thats it
I don't want to install Origin/Epic/Steam/Battle.net and have them auto start and update every single time I start my PC

**** Epic Games and Fortnite for allowing this to happen
and Casual fortnite/mobile gamers for everything wrong with the industry in the last 1-2 years.

I like cake

Origin is pretty much only EA stuff that is exclusive. There's plenty of games that are not owned by Valve/Steam that are exclusive to it though (barring console versions, but those don't really count in this discussion since Epic store exclusives have console releases as well).

Ark
Conan Exiles
PUBG
Dead by Daylight
The Forest
Vermintide 2
Rust
Arma 3
Call of Duty games between Black ops 1 all the way to Black Ops 3
DOOM
F.E.A.R. 3
Friday the 13th

I could keep going too, cause it's actually a fairly long list.

CoD used to be Steam exclusive (while you might obtain a key elsewhere you're only having a Steam key and not launching the game outside Steam?). I don't think Steam and Activision are related by parents, so in this case it was already bad and got a little better - I'm not sure it makes too much difference, I think I can still stick to my initial claim?

There seems to be a bit of fudging "exclusivity" as well, a lot of my Steam library, if I close Steam, browse to the game .exe and launch it it will either launch Steam or not let me play, pretty much exclusively Steam only games even though a Steam key may be available from third parties? For me we should consider those exclusive and there's a lot of them.

It's great how sometimes I just want to play a game for a half hour or so and I can't because it has to be updated and I have to wait on the update.

That's not analogous at all. It used to be "Steam exclusive" back when Steam was the only online library / storefront / launcher / manager. Origin appeared later, but it exclusively hosts games published by EA. Now that Battle.net exists, it makes more sense to publish CoD there exclusively (especially since its popularity will probably make the lost sales marginal and make up for them with the smaller cost of hosting).

Steam had a monopoly; now, it doesn't. Now, you can finally talk about exclusivity.

An alleged cash deal between Deep Silver and Epic would make things even murkier.
