You get a free game and people still complain. PC crowd is a joke at times. Why on earth would they give their source code away randomly? Besides, Morrowind is bar none one of the most widely modded games as is.

And secondly, Morrowind isn't even that good? Comeon man. Maybe relative to what we can do now, but back in it's launch it was quite a big deal. Still far better than most rpg's now. If giving it away for free lets newcomers discover what RPG's were like before we had fast travel and objectives fed to you like a baby. Unlike most modern rpg's, Bethesda's included, it actually made you put some thought into it.

It wouldn't be an Elder Scrolls game if it wasn't bugged.

Oh Morrowind was bugged as all get out, but it was still awesome.

Daggerfall was bugged too patchs fixed all the major things though.

I'm sure I fell through the floor into space a couple times in Arena too...

(yes, I'm old.)

There are a few essential mods I recommend for morrowind that can improve both the graphics and game stability, without necessarily altering the unique character or artistic style of the game.

The first is morrowind code patch, which makes the game generally more stable:
https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/19510/?

The second is MGXE, which is kind of like ENB for morrowind, including giving you things like widescreen and high resolution support:
https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/41102

And finally patch for pursists, which fixes a bunch of smaller bugs and oversights on the part of bethesda:
https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45096

Personally, I stop there, but if you want to bedazzle your game further, this guide will link you to the good stuff:

https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php...graphics_guide

I can confirm that the steam version, at least, runs just fine on windows 10 with the above three mods installed.

Call me an idiot but I preferred to buy this on Steam, y'know, where all my other TES games are (that and there's a Bethesda sale so it was pretty cheap). There are so many store fronts/launchers now I'm starting to lose track of whether I've bought something or not. The amount of times I've almost bought one of the Metro redux titles again because I have one on GOG and one on Steam....
