I feel bad that I'm not impressed. So much work and talent goes into RTX. I just don't see the "wow factor" yet. Credit to these dev teams for working hard and being proud, I'm rooting for you.

First 15 seconds of the link you provided the developer of Q2VKPT Christoph Schied, says that nVidia placed extensions on top of Q2VKPT.
There are some parts that aren't path traced, the volumetric sun light or something.

Path tracing doesn't care much about the scene, be it a simple indoors Quake or something else, sure BVH cost will be higher with a more complex scene. Materials used however do have a large impact. It runs slow even on RTX so on GTX... good luck getting 1080p60 on 1080Ti.

In some ways I think the Q2VKPT was made to look closer to original, contrasty look, clipped blacks, not much light gets bounced, ... one would have to rewrite more to get it look what some may expect from path traced "movies".
Q2RTX seemed to look a lot different. I think it's a waste of time to mod the Q2VKPT since Q2RTX will be made public eventually.

Another example from the voxel world this time with no hardware acceleration, there has been some from what I saw before but now it's even more:

Not a Minecraft person but there are some mods that add tracing to it and voxel approximated very nice renderings etc.

It's all over other sites but not yet OCN? Q2RTX is released, https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce...-now-for-free/ Source is on Github with extra sources under release section as packed files, almost 1GB of extras, I think it's mostly textures but there are also some environment and console commands in that.
Direct download works from TechSpot not from NV's site at least not from their never ending regional redirecting sites.

Of course all NV links are littered with buy buy buy RTX card and they force you to install latest driver too for no freakin' reason other than to force driver installs because Vulkan ray tracing works for a long time now on older drivers (Q2VKPT, ...) and this uses nothing else.
Will try it tomorrow since I have to reinstall driver... meh.

It's on OCN, just not in the news section:

I got it for free from Steam, that worked great.

Barely 20fps with a 2080ti... on a 22yr old game.

The tech is cool, but it's not visually ground breaking considering what we've been able to emulate with lighting techniques recently. I don't care how it's rendered, I do care about how I perceive it and the performance hit.

Yes that was at 4k... but again, $1200 gpu and an ancient game. Even at 1440p it's in the low 40's / high 30's....

So what we'll see for the most part moving forward is much like physx - bits and pieces of the tech in actual gameplay because the demand was too high.

Well OCN is again in the habit of expired tokens...

Joker sets it to max quality at 4k and then complains it runs slow... it's a graphical demo, they always do that because they user cutting edge methods. RTX2070 runs 15fps at same settings instead of RTX2080Ti 19fps. With my custom settings = default all ON and default bounce=1 = medium GI, 1920x1440px 80% res. scale 70fps. Neither does he understand how different path tracing is from the hybrid or 1-2 effects in Metro/BF5/...

It's all about how you set it.

Unfortunately despite NV doing a good job at making this demo much more usable and polished the resolution scaling is truly a resolution scaling not a ray count scaling which as far as I got to know from Chris would mean changing the noise/denoise... = even NV didn't want to do that. They polished most if not all other issues, that's great.

It runs noticeably faster with driver 430 optimizations and that's why they force that driver.

The complains of people paying thousands of $$$ on consumer hardware, getting ripped off and then having to deal with low 4k performance are never ending and quite frankly getting old. 4k is cool and all but there is no GPU to run it fast enough in modern let alone cutting edge programs/games/demos. Want fast 4k... use a prehistoric fast rasterizing fake graphics game engine with low quality settings...

So... Quake 2's RTX implemention has to be set to 80% res scale of 1920x1440p and with lowered RT settings to achieve 70fps? Do you not see the hilarity in it?

You say pushing 4k is hard yet I've been fine on 4k since 2014 with minor tweaks in fidelity. Even at 4k all Ultra games like BFV over all run surprisingly well on my Vega64 and all technical 'goodies' aside it complete trounces Quake II w/ RTX in actual visual "wow" factor.

But hey, I'm the crazy one for calling out a $1200 GPU barely running this properly and it's obviously a highly polished version to promote the technology. What do you think we'll actually get from regular devs working with it?

If anything is far from being ready, it's Ray Tracing.

And I'm all for advances in gpu technology but the price Nvidia is asking for these cards and then they hit us with a Quake II demo.
