GoG does very little to most of the legacy titles they sell, and a lot of them don't run correctly on modern systems. I've had huge issues with many of their less frequently updated titles on Windows 10 and many of their DOS games require me to rip them apart and reconfigure the DOXBox settings they use for an optimal experience.
I appreciate what they do (and I have spent thousands of dollars on GoG), but the idea that a game license is tied to the install media is completely mistaken in most cases. Were you to acquire a copy of any title you still had a license to, it would be entirely legal to install and use, in most jurisdictions.
