There have been several deals of 16 GB 3000mhz memory for about $ 60 but current ram overstock might have more to do with that and I wonder if they actually can use that as a projection reference for several years to come for console contracts but if it keeps like that, a 24 GB system might be feasible if Sony and MS can get more discounts on top of that.

Sony was willing to pay $ 80-90 for RAM back then. Mostly speculation but 32 GB 3000mhz would probably not too unrealistic for them to get below $ 100. Problem would be the poor bandwidth of current ddr.

That being said I do wonder if Sony and MS can push for 16 GB vram and 8 gb ram of the really cheap ddr for OS. Base systems have 2.5-3gb memory for OS.
4GB extra ddr for OS might be good enough unless next gen consoles will have a a much more robust os for multi-tasking and media editing.

Have they said that it won't be HBM memory?

I still don't know why AMD hasn't made an HBM APU... Just one large pool of GDDR memory like PS4 uses.

I’ll also have Xbox Anaconda to play my favorite franchises there, it’s not like I’m starving for new games to play.
I just sold my PS4 Pro & PSVR. Hopefully PSVR 2.0 will be small and wireless.

"Sony boldly claims that this configuration will run games at 8K resolutions, but 8K is not yet mainstream, so it’s probably just a feature-proof claim. Now, gamers would really appreciate 4K games running at 60 fps, and CEO Jim Ryan unveiled in a CNET interview that the PS5 will offer support for 4K @120 Hz."

mhm... in the UI maybe.

anyone who believes you're gonna get the performance of 1-2x 2080ti outta a $600 console is delusional.

I think what he really meant to say was "it'll have the correct ports to support it, but don't expect to actually game in it"\

ahhh, it all makes sense now.

PS5 basic $600, with a $600 add-in card that's SSD sized to actually get the perf. needed to meet half the claims they're making. Thus, if you wanna play your PS5 @ 4K competently, your PS5 will be $1k+

Yeah, they still can't do 4k without 2D interlacing (checkered board rendering)... "8K" "capable"

I’ve been running various games at 4K120 since the 980Ti. It’s all about graphical balance. Anything designed to hit 60fps on consoles should get 100fps+ Without too much trouble.
Fact is any game design on the market today “can” be done at 4K120 on PS5, and probably with tons of headroom on that hardware, if developers don’t do 4K120 it’s because they chose not to, just like how anyone developing on Xbox One X “can” do 4K60 if they choose to.

For the entire history of 3D gaming almost all games outside of sports titles have chosen to use the worst possible framerate and resolution. Hopefully we’re about to see the industry shift toward maintaining better display standards and not just trying to make games that look like movies running on a TV from the 90’s.

I doubt it's going to be cheaper in hardware itself but since it isn't going to come with a monitor or require an OS it's probably gonna be Dell-ish.

wait, how do you expect $500-$600 worth of hardware to actually reach 120FPS @ 4K? I don't see that being possible, even with the rumored add-on card thing.

AMD's currently most expensive GPU could only do that in a few modern titles, with settings on super LOW... MAYBE...

so essentially you're saying you expect a $500-$600 console (let's call it $1,000 for now, under the pretense that addin card will exist, which will 100% be required to go above 1080p60FPS) to outperform the top of the line machines from 2019 by about 2 fold?
