[GOG] GOG GALAXY 2.0 All your games and friends in one place.

Connect GOG GALAXY 2.0 with multiple platforms and unite all your games and friends scattered across them in one powerful app.

I know a lot of ya'll hate all the game clients that need to be installed on a gaming PC these days, but it appears that GOG is trying to do something about that.

It claims to group all games, friends and achievements from all platforms. Looking forward to giving it a spin.

Good for those who want something like this, but I'll most likely continue to download and install games the old fashioned way.

Good thing that GOG's Galaxy client is optional. As long as it stays that way, the premise to have DRM-free games will stand.

I thought GOG was our lord and savior of not having proprietary launchers?

The website/distributor itself IS that way. GOG Galaxy is an optional client with several 'nice' features. I have archived all games I've purchased from them via the GOG Downloader, but use the launcher anyway for convenience (like cloud saves).

That said, they have ceased support for the GOG Downloader so I'm a little concerned about that.

I love having five separate friends lists. /s

Would be nice if Steam (with its in-home streaming, and excellent controller support/configurator) picked up this functionality.

From the FAQ:

Quote:
Do I still need to have other gaming clients installed on my PC?

Yes, if you want to get access to any features specific to that platform, e.g. installing or auto-updating games, cloud saves, etc.

So guessing the way this is going to work is that you point the GoG client to the install folder of the other client and it somehow hooks into their EXE's to perform all the client specific actions.

In the beta advertisement, they have Halo MCC as the first game listed(I know it's not coming to gog). Gonna try this out.

So GOG is taking after Discord a bit and wants to appeal to the "No Steam, no buy" drones. Because simply being the most consumer friendly platform wasn't enough to get them noticed, but cool I guess. I opted into the beta so I can give them feedback.
