I wasn't wishing for the segregation of software; only that different hardware can path trace, and both companies will be competing for the absolute best implementation.

You can run any ray/path tracing game or application right now if it's enabled in the drivers, such as is the case of your 1070. RTX cards will simply run it much better, though.

Ray Tracing means DX12 so AMD GPUs are going to be good with RTX off. Pascal will probably suffer most.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that CDPR, a company/studio that apparently supports openness and DRM free stuff, goes into bed with nVidia for something like Hairworks. Blows my mind.

CDPR was a PC centric dev, Nvidia is a PC only, and leader. Makes sense to use Nvidia. Also, biggest reason is they probably all have 2080 Ti and Titan RTX in their system to develop the game.

W3 did not need hairworks, and then there were multiple settings if you wanted it. Not sure why TressFx did not get added though. Love to hear the opinions on that.

PSA: W3 is coming to Nintendo Switch.

it wont, but there's nothing worth getting in its stead besides another 1080ti, used... at least until 2021.

i'm in the same boat, but to upgrade from a 5.3 9700k, 3600c14 memory, n 2x 1080ti anytime in the near future just makes no sense.

I built this system because nothing out made sense over my 4930k, but I somehow talked myself into gifting my 4930k system, so I had to do something.

^^ from the cost/perf+ upgrade mindset, combined with knowing that I'm saving for a house.
