I am a 2080ti owner who never uses any of the RTX features in games. I have yet to see an RTX implementation that's worth any amount of frame rate loss, and certainly not one that's worthy of a resolution reduction.

On topic, there are enough people playing minecraft to warrant something like this?? I thought it was a fad that was going to fade away quietly but that was many years ago so I was obviously wrong.

i'm looking forward to when NV, AMD, & INTEL all force us into ray tracing, until then though? I'll stick to watching the demos & keep my high frames.

It's been around for a while though. I kind of laughed a little when I saw the Windows AR headset minecraft demo a few years ago because I was thinking that they had to use that game for it's low requirements. Now I'm leaning more towards them using it because it's their most popular game.

Quote:
Minecraft received critical acclaim and won numerous awards, and has since been described as one of the most influential video games in history. Social media, parodies, adaptations, merchandise, and the MineCon convention played large roles in popularizing the game. It has also been used in educational environments, especially in the realm of computing systems, as virtual computers and hardware devices have been built in it. By mid-2018, the game had around 91 million active players monthly. It is also the best-selling video game of all time, selling over 176 million copies across all platforms by May 2019. A number of spin-off games have also been developed, such as Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Earth, and Minecraft Dungeons.

I think I am going to stop reading the internet because it's always reminding me of how out of touch I am.

It's not, as per the developers.

So, first of all, SEUS PTGI (short for Path Traced Global Illumination) is a shaderpack for Minecraft powered by the mod called OptiFine. It doesn't require any special hardware or an RTX card, just a modern GPU with decent horsepower! The ray tracing under the hood powering this shaderpack is software-based and unable to take advantage of RTX RT cores for acceleration. Utilizing RT cores is, for the time being, not possible with OptiFine.

Yup, I am wrong about that but I doubt it's a driver limitation. I've been able to run multiple Ray Tracing demos on my Vega 64 and Radeon VII that don't utilize DxR.

That mod is still using RT cores that accelerate BVH. We've already seen AMD's poor 1080p performance during the Crytek mesh ray tracing demo. It's the reason why AMD still hasn't enabled Ray Tracing on any of their current cards and the reason "big navi" will have dedicated hardware. Just like how they added more tessellation units in the 6970 to compete with Fermi.
Sorry bud, but no.

SUES can and will run on my 1080TI and as of version E9 he added AMD support. His test card is an RX 580.

Continuum 2.1 Alpha also runs on both nVidia and AMD.

Very wrong.

It has recently been making a big resurgence. It's beating Fortnite again.

Also VR/AR Minecraft is breathtaking. Imagine scenes like these:

Except instead of just some picture in an aerial view that some dude ran a resource pack and shaders and pressed F2, its all in 1:1. Minecraft blocks are 1 meter cubes, and build height is 256 (~800ft). People build cities and other projects spanning sizes that are measured in square kilometers.

And in survival it's simply one of the best VR games available. Not because it runs so well, or because it's perfect (it runs pretty bad in comparison, glitches, and the controls are silly), but because it's one of the most complete games available to the platform.

"Bedrock", aka not-the-one-with-mods edition, yes. Java edition has a few ray/path traced mods already and they look better.

Define "not a driver limitation"? Dedicated hardware is not a requirement. Minecraft Java Edition runs in OpenGL (not DirtectX or Vulkan) and can run ray/path traces features just fine on just about any card you please.

"not a driver limitation" was regarding this post: https://www.overclock.net/forum/28094708-post17.html SEUS PTGI not working on AMD cards. Which is the reason I mentioned I've ran multiple ray tracing demos on my RX Vega 64 and Radeon VII and yes those demos are OpenGL demos. Never said dedicated hardware is a requirement. It's clear though that games run much better when utilizing dedicated hardware.

Just downloaded SEUS PTGI E9, it looks nice and worth the frames drop. It's averaging 40 FPS w/ a Radeon VII that runs at 2Ghz.
