[PCGAMES] RTX put on hold Assetto Corsa Competizione

Quote:
Assetto Corsa Competizione RTX support is currently delayed until further notice. A post by a Kunos Simulazioni staff member on the game’s official forums suggest that the developers are not going ahead with ray tracing support in game for the time being, despite the game being advertised as such within Nvidia’s initial RTX 20-series launch lineup.

...

“Our priority is to improve, optimise, and evolve all aspects of ACC,” a member of the dev team writes. “If after our long list of priorities the level of optimisation of the title, and the maturity of the technology, permits a full blown implementation of RTX, we will gladly explore the possibility, but as of now there is no reason to steal development resources and time for a very low frame rate implementation.”

Seems like a good decision. No point in sinking development hours into a feature that RTX users will turn on to see what it looks like but then turn off to actually play the game.

I wonder how much more each card costs considering the hardware and research gone into RT. A 2070 Super at $400 would have been awesome.

Well the gaming side of the tensor cores is just the sugar on top for Nvidia. All of the gpu's pull double duty now with some of them ending up on quadros and some on gaming cards, I doubt it would have saved any money to develop a second line of GPU's without the tensor cores just for the gaming cards.

...and all those 5700XT reviews that gave Nvidia the better rating because of RTX at a more expensive price.

You realize this is for one game and was a decision from the developer with only 30 employees and not nVidia? Assetto Corsa Competizione is a mess right now. They have more important things to work on.

Yeah I get it. But I think it's still a valid point. Handing out demerits because a card doesn't have a feature that has a huge performance hit seems a bit unjust.

That's Kunos being their lazy self. They bait switched not only RTX with ACC. They will bail out of any feature if they can. They better invest time in fixing the game breaking issues instead and changing that console like dumb GUI.

I agree. Using ray tracing as a point of comparison for graphics cards at this point in time is little more than ignorant optimism. We all know it sucks right now, I'm talking about quality not performance, and it's not likely to be much better before the next generation of cards comes out (maybe even the gen after). It's ok to use features as a point of comparison, but crappy features shouldn't be in the pros column.

I also think it's a good decision.
