I doubt this will move the plot forward at all, it will probably be some kind of Half Life themed puzzle VR game.

I don't think the expectations for HL3 would be that hard to live up to. Unlike a lot of other games that fail with sequels, the plot was the main reason people wanted to play HL3 so bad, not the tech. It should not be so hard just to keep the plot moving.

No doubt, a Walmart version of HL to sell their VR kits. I saw this coming what now 8 years ago when I first heard of Valve working on their version of VR and said to myself they will tie the next HL title to it.

While you are mostly likely correct...Let's give this a chance to breath before bashing it. Maybe it's not what we're all thinking and maybe Valve is doing something special here.

y'all know light house based VR is on the way out right? most of the sub top tier units now use outward facing cameras (IE: clearing out your whole room) (though base on my many years in simming and trackIR useage, i'd assume the lighthouses will never hurt )

I definitely agree that its a strange decision, but they're the ones with the metrics. It'll be a hype product for the new Oculus coming out. The all wireless, no lighthouse unit.

I'd assume it'll also have a NOT VR mode, they just won't tell anyone that for awhile.

the pedestal is nearly 20 years tall, it'll be rough no matter how the slice it. It'll still get murdered by reviewers, even if somehow its epic. I just hope they're using as much vaulted story & content as possible. It'll be interesting to see modern source cranked to AAA fidelity. That's not really something Counter Strike team ever has to focus on. You've gotta remember, these folks set some serious standards back in the day. Half Life is what allowed Valve to take over the world via Steam. You wouldn't have had steam success without Half Life's success. I'll consider it an epic failure if they don't push ALL the boundaries as far as possible, in ALL ways.

Too late to be inb4 the bashing.

Excited to see what comes of this. Won't be budgeting for VR for a while - already have christmas outlined for a GPU.

Windows 10 is the platform, you are the product.

I totally forgot about that epistle 3 mod weirdness, did it ever become playable though?

I have little faith, but I'd love to see a full series remaster on a yet to be seen super shiny source engine.

As long as it does not require VR and it's a decent game, why not. If they make VR mandatory prepare for the game to be a total money dumpster = financial loss.
It's pretty hard to justify spending $500+ on a VR and all it's endless sensors/stands/controllers/gadgets to make it work while you also need a decently sized room to put it all into and guess what you will still be sitting down not moving unless you are super rich and get one of the omnidirectional treadmills etc. Plus the headsets so far are far from impressive, low FOV, low resolution, heavy, moving back to LCD trash screens and so on. It will be a while before someone makes a truly decent high FOV high resolution emissive panel VR headset and it doesn't cost as much as a car or needs two GPUs worth a car alone. VR can be great when done right but that has still not happened after all the decades.
