yep, if true, it probably won't fill again until after christmas. Means I won't be getting one, or a C9. money's just gonna sit

haven't checked yet, can't hit steam @ work, cuz I'm mean.

i'm sure the haters will say "low quantity guaranteed this would happen, fake, intended sell out, for the marketing and hype machine"

while others will say "see? VR isn't DOA you under the rock living curmudgeons"

I was curious as to why they were selling for $1500 on EBAY today. I guess this is why.

the best news about this is no one will get bunk controllers when the refresh hits, whereas right now most acquirers are stating their controllers have issues with the joy click.

I can see them clearing stock of the Index, waiting a month(to get over the return period) and then announcing a Index 2, to release on the same day as Alyx which will include some special feature that will allow a better Alyx experience.

Good one! Completely valid thinking.

Version 2, with proper functional nunchucks this time!

either way, win win for me. I'll get working nunchucks at the least, or a V2 at the most

Well the way Valve are selling the Index is quite consumer friendly; backwards compatibility with the Vive and the option to purchase the complete kit or specific parts of it.

They aren't even selling the parts for significantly more then they cost if you buy the kit - buy a headset ($659), controllers ($369), and two base stations ($199 each) separately and it is only $107 more than the kit ($1,319), which makes sense since they have to deal with more boxes, more handling, etc.

So if there is a Rev. 2 to expand on the capabilities of Rev. 1 then I have faith that you'll able to buy just the bits that have changed.

That's not going to happen. Not even phones get new versions this quickly. The Index 1 isn't even available globally yet, only in 32 countries.

The Index is going to be around for 3 years minimum before they announce a successor. There's nothing really to improve it, at least not with current tech without it more than doubling the costs and therefore price.

I have a sick PC. I'm even heavily invested in Valve's eco system I probably have around 300 dollars worth of CSGO skins.

And Half-Life is the entire reason for all of it.

AND this game looks awesome.

But I still don't see a headset that makes me think I have to have it and as cool as the game does look I don't have to have it either.

Give me a proper Half-Life 3. 20 hours long, AAA graphics all the old actors. I'll pay 200 dollars for a copy.

I'd imagine I'm not alone in this thinking.

They are AFAIK. The only actors they replaced both died in 2010 and 2017.

That's great news no doubt. I'll definitely be checking out a let's play then.

Really wish Valve would re-visit that Source 2 'screenshot' of L4D3 and understand that's what people want.

In the CS community we'd been up until two weeks ago without an operation for two years. The matchmaking still sucks if you really want to play you are on ESEA or Faceit. 64 tick simply doesn't work for the level of precision Counter-Strike needs. You can't even hit certain smokes on 64 tick. It's absolutely ridiculous after all these years.

Like I hate to be that guy but all this announcement does is make me think valve is less and less in touch.

I mean back on the subject of CS. It's probably their most successful product right now and we are still stuck on an esports eco system that has NOWHERE near the amount of support DOTA 2 has simply because Gabe happens to play Dota and not CS.

It's just frustrating being a fan for me when I see where the resources are actually going.

lots of people want lots of things, but only one side ever makes noise in these situations. You only think that's what everyone wants because social media is designed to amplify REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, and take it to the top page for maximum click absorption.

luckily valve isn't as bound by the all mighty dollar as the other folks churning out the same stuff yearly, for the last 15 years. Thus they can go out on a limb & make this push. It' sucks, and its awesome all at the same time.

I'm sure this will be the re-opening of Valve's pandora's box. More than A single VR title will come.
