the head sets exist, they just aren't being made by valve, oculus, or HTC.

you then just adapt them to all the standard light house stuff.

note though, that the outward facing camera (instead of IR towers) models are taking over, and the are new baseline unit.

I'm not strapping one of those bulky things to my face just to play some lame excuse for a half life game, lol. This carries about as much weight with me as a mobile game.

Kinda makes me wonder if the game's actual release will be somewhat like this:

Could be, probably will; their thinking might be they'll sell more of their VR kits by giving the game away for free with each kit.

Why? What's wrong with VR?

It's pretty hard to justify spending $500+ on a VR and all it's endless sensors/stands/controllers/gadgets to make it work while you also need a decently sized room to put it all into and guess what you will still be sitting down not moving unless you are super rich and get one of the omnidirectional treadmills etc. Plus the headsets so far are far from impressive, low FOV, low resolution, heavy, moving back to LCD trash screens and so on. It will be a while before someone makes a truly decent high FOV high resolution emissive panel VR headset and it doesn't cost as much as a car or needs two GPUs worth a car alone. VR can be great when done right but that has still not happened after all the decades.

Have you ever actually used "second gen" VR?

Flight Sim or Racing games are the only way I'd ever want to use VR.

This. IMHO this will be a VR project to push VR, using the hype of HL. I mean, if it were a real HL sequel then where's Gordon at?

Edit: Even if it is HL 3 I'll shrug and move on (and I'm a big HL fan). I have no interest in VR and I think a lot of people would be in the same boat.

Edit 2: Some more info here: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/...ength-vr-game/

Still not interested.
