half life 2 episode 3 confirmed? cuz its not actually HL3!

lulz aside -

this title will bring more folks to VR, than are already on the platform. get your money in now.

my first thought when seeing it - "whelp, looks like I'll be buying whatever top of the line VR set exists at release"

R.I.P. Zawarudo, may you OC angels' wings in heaven.

So, if you don't already own a top end VR setup, it'll cost you your pending HEDT cpu upgrade to play Alyx?

the reveal in 3 days will be quite interesting.

this game installment was finished, what? 3 lifetimes ago? Soooo. what? The epic heat is so real they've finally had to pull it from the vault?

thinking any genuine dev work was done recently is silly. They locked the genie in the bottle, n will just port it to the newest shiniest, yet to be released source engine.

at least, that's my hope... how else will it be a good conclusion to HL2, and why else would it be named alyx, aside from finishing up HL2:2 story?

and um, does this now mean we'll be getting HL seasons from Valve?

like i said. More folks will buy into VR than already exist on the platform, due to this announcement. Many of the 30 somethings I know with disposable income, rocking HEDT, titans, etc still don't have VR because "is it even there yet?" this will make them think its finally there, and its a game we all grew up on. many of us even remember a time before steam! trying to get ricochet mod to work. "uhh, what is this black screen? I see a platform somewhere... DAMMIT, DID MY MAP SAVE GLITCH TRANSFER TO MY MODS?!?!"

Unfortunately, one game that bridges the gap of interest for consumers cannot in turn birth a Renaissance for VR. Maybe it can for a VERY small subsection of gamers who hold a high enough interest that one game can act as a catalyst . My guess is that population is rather small, and most will need more incentive. Myself included. Still glad they haven't completely exiled the Half-Life brand. Hopefully this shows a re-evaluated position of titles going forward.

Doesn't matter how good VR gets, I'm not clearing out my living room to play video games.

And what Valve doesn't seem to care about at all is that this is not what their customers want, but they do it anyway. This will surely piss off more people than it will make happy. Valve is clearly not in the business of making it's customers happy anymore though, they just do whatever they feel like. Great for Valve employees, not anyone else.

Historically, media sequels that take too long to come out tend to fall short of the expectations. I have little faith it'd be a worthy sequel at this point.

OK Valve. Now sell the Index outside of US / EU...

I'm quietly optimistic for this. Yes, Valve haven't done anything for a long time, but what they have done in the past has been world class.

Why not? Wolfenstein 3D and Quake basically kick started affordable GPU development...

Whilst I would generally agree, Toy Story 3 and Incredibles 2 want a word...

Inspiring Quotes
