[The Verge] Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser is leaving the company

So Dan Houser, one of the founders of Rockstar, is leaving the company. He was involved in every major franchise such as GTA, RDR, and Max Payne.

I hope this doesn't mean that single-player games are history at Rockstar.

interesting to see what things will come from him at his next stop. He probably got tired of RAGE engine. I would too after all that time. You'd grow to hate your own creations

no teeth smiling = "oh hey! say cheese for the awkward lady we paid to come take photos at our corp. event!"

It's interesting that every other animal on the planet thinks that showing teeth is a sign of aggression.

That monkey/ape/orang showing teeth when you get close? That's saying, "back off, you're in my space".

Only humans seem to tell themselves otherwise.

To be on topic, hopefully Rockstar continue to make single player games. Although as much as I want RDR2, I'm rather sick of the Rockstar Launcher Social Club Thing...

tbh this news makes me uneasy regarding Rockstar's future.

I have this feeling that GTA VI will be "online only" which would be catastrophic IMO.

If they slowly but surely shift to "online only" games, that will be the end of Rockstar as we know it.

I repeat, I've played about 20 minutes of GTA Online and about 10 minutes of RDR2 Online - both were incredibly boring and I've never touched that mode since. The single player modes OTOH, I play even to this day.

Dan Houser was the real "story-guy" behind these great games/franchises. Benzies is already out as of GTA V. Now one of the Housers.

The way they never made GTA V single player DLC really was pathetic. I don't think they're going to make RDR 2 single player DLC either.

I don't expect any RDR2 story DLC. Just online stuff that keeps you close to the monetization.

it's they're like crack dealers smoking their own crack. it's truly disgusting at this point. However, I do expect something good to come of this. We'll be hearing about an epic new project in a few years, I'm sure.

maybe something cool will happen, like a bunch of OGs coming together to build something awesome. You know, a video game thru n thru, not a 50/50 game/shopping simulator.

also - if you spend enough money on gaming/microtransactions to affect your well being, then you have a problem. seek help.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's leaving because of Take Two. Rockstar released 3 games in total in the last decade. Red Dead Redemption 1 in 2010, GTA V in 2013 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Looking at the other IPs Take Two publish, 3 games in 10 years is no where near enough for them. Given the fact that Rockstar have over 2500 employees with a lot of them complaining about being overworked and it taking this long for them to make games just shows how much effort they put into making these games.

If my guess is correct, I'd say Take Two want them to release rushed, garbage games annually/semi-annually, something that Dan wouldn't want. Dan (as well as Leslie who got fired a couple of years ago) were pretty infamous for being perfectionists and not wanting to release garbage broken games.

In humans, it's got nothing to do with aggression. More often than not, it's lack of self-confidence, and that annoys me in grown ass men; especially since these guys are very literally Rockstar's.

The thing is, everybody is as judgemental of petty stuff like this based on their culture. This sounded so American I almost laughed.
