[AnandTech] GeForce NOW Leaves Beta, Game Streaming Service Launches With New RTX Servers

Source: https://www.anandtech.com/show/15451...es-with-rtx-on

Quote:
For the last several years, NVIDIA has been dabbling in offering game streaming services. Starting out as GeForce GRID for the controller-shaped SHIELD Portable, the service has morphed over the years in scope and technology. The most recent iteration, GeForce NOW, a multi-platform service, was launched in beta back at the start of 2018. And now, a bit over two years later, NVIDIA is finally taking the service out of beta and is formally launching the commercial GeForce NOW service.
So far all the reviews I've seen from the official release have been positive.

woot... let's see if any of the free samples on my shield launch for once.... NOPE! lame.

wish they would've fleshed out connecting to your shield from elsewhere.

meh, I guess there's no point now that steam allows you to do it between installations.

If you laughed at too many desktop icons or a bad language could cause input lag then wait until you try rendering on a GPU that's a hundred miles away from your input device - I don't think you'll be able to tell them they're imagining it

latency feels ~250-500 on my shield, when it works, which is rare. the free samples of the service are so terrible that I never had to debate trying it out. Same for Stadia, and all the others.

combine that with the fact, like all the others, you'd have to re-buy any games you already own, but wanna experience while on the go.

steam's solution is the best solution, it'll go to any device, and uses your existing library. all of this other stuff is simply useless. it's not like they're using some super secret special network technology that reduces latency any more over using steam stream.

I haven't had any problems with it during the beta. I was playing Forza Horizon 4 on my shield.

where are you located, and how do the free games they put up perform for you? While it "works fine" the inherent latency i've experienced on all sample titles makes it completely bleh as an addon service.

It was scary good for me. I tried HoTS which is a game I play a lot. 1080p High and was getting over 60 fps. Ping that the game detected was 10-20 ms. So basically I only feel extra 10-20 ms ping extra.

its just a paid client now. good on them!

i was specifically referencing the experience of running a title directly from their servers, to your TV, via shield. not redirecting your home titles. that works flawlessly via shield up to 4k60, when geforce experience isn't preventing games from launching.
