The actions of a few bad apples affect the whole lot. Hopefully GOG's new policy doesn't come back around on them.

I think that is most store policies for games, music and movies. Usually only exchanges for the same item are allowed. They're all too easy to make copies.

Pretty sweet. Way better than the puny 2 hours from Steam.
oh my god, it's a miracle. the fallacies around why digital content should adhere to different return standards than any other good are flat out insane. The people that defend them suffer the ultimate form of Stockholm syndrome.

i still maintain there's less loss to a company paying out a return on a digital good than a company that has to ship/field/handle and then possibly dispose of the returned item, whereas a returned digital good is at most lost bandwidth. "you beat it! you shouldn't be allowed to return it!" this, I could get behind. You can return the product within 30 days, as long as you didn't complete it.

you aren't allowed to return finished food, so why should you be allowed to return a finished game?

I'm so picky in how I shop for games, due to return policies of the last FOREVER, that I've yet to have to take advantage of Steam's corporate greed warped policy.

I'm also gonna maintain, as "trash" as most people consider anything not steam. Steam would still look and function the way it did 10 years ago if these other platforms didn't start popping up.

4. HOW DOES IT WORK?

If, within 30 days after the purchase of your game, you experience technical problems or game-breaking bugs that prevent you from finishing your game, contact our customer support. They will do their best to help you fix the problem and if, at the end of their attempts to solve the problem your game is still not working, we'll give you back your money.
Makes perfect sense, I wonder what the actual return policy is if you do not enjoy the game. I guess you could use Navi black screen issues as an excuse for now.

Edit: From everything I've read it sounds like a giant pain. Their goal is to attempt to get it working on your machine. I'd rather try a game and if I don't enjoy it I can return it without a hassle. Haven't had any trouble with Steam's return policy.

"we see no issues!"

uhg, reason #342343 why you don't contact game support. i feel like the last time they gave decent advice was ~15-20 years ago.

As time goes on I'm liking GOG more and more. It always seemed to me like it was run by enthusiasts that knew what we wanted out of a game distribution platform.
They didn't until just before Batman: Arkham Knight launched. That game's PC launch was so bad.

Also:

Well, there's a reason why we post the system requirements on each game's page: so you can see for yourself what you'll need to have on your rig in order to be able to run the game. If your game doesn't work because you misread our system specs, all we can really offer is that we're sorry for you.

14. BUT WHAT IF A WHOLE LOT OF MY GAMES DON'T WORK?

We know that, since we're the Internet's leading DRM-free gaming platform, our Money Back Guarantee offer here is open to a certain amount of abuse. If you're being a bad person who's abusing our trust of you and asking for a whole lot of your games to be refunded and we can't resolve your problems, we'll have to stop offering you refunds.

So don't be that guy. No one likes that guy. How many games can you ask for money back? We're humans here, so there's no hard numbers. If it seems like you're exploiting us, we'll let you know and tell you that this will be your final refund offer from us.
LOL.
I think if you are a real customer and really want your money back on this one game that you think just plain sucks they might bend for you and give a refund, as long as you didn't play for like 20 hours or something. GOG's less robust anti-piracy policy probably makes them a target for people wanting "free" games, so GOG's written policy has to be pretty restrictive; both so they can refuse refunds to cheaters and so legit customers feel special when a CS rep makes an "exception".

Who needs to steal or refund games when you can install Epic games launcher Sure maybe not play on day 1 but a few months later or a year later good games do show up on there especially when some stupid DLC is about to launch and they want more people to get hooked.
There are options these days and that's exactly why finally some small competition between these stores is going on.

GOG is nice though, download, run, like the old days, simple and fast, no hassle of endless DRM and launchers needed in background etc. Though the Epic free games work without their launcher too. Steam though... mostly not.
