Perhaps not computer gaming in particular, but some form of entertainment is essential. And at the end of the day a game costs money and money is money and it's money out of your pocket, regardless of whether you consider entertainment essential to your overall well-being or not.
Entertainment is essential entirely based on how you perceive what being essential is. On that note, humans have been around a very long time... we just used to beat each other with sticks or kick rocks for entertainment and we survived just fine. It's an evolving world, obviously, so opinions change. But break everything down to it's core, the only essentials are food, water, and shelter.

This a discussion that has many layers and you are right, it's a long one so it's best left with me saying I understand where you are coming from my argument is coming from a different 'layer' so to speak.

This all said, if a company makes a game and does things to said game that I disagree with (such as the horrible WC3 remake mistakes) I will absolutely not buy the game. At the same time, I refuse to entirely right off a company if they do good in the future and make a game without these errors despite their past mistakes.

Edit.. just saw your edit:

See above. I have no problem berating a bad move or bad game, but I am not writing off any future titles of said company either. Let's be real here, I am disappointi at actual legit issues with platforms and games where as the gamers I am referring to get mad about ridiculous nit picking or social/political pandering type issues and scream from the tops of mountains about them.

You may be upset because Crysis 3 is only available on it's publisher's platform (key difference from my post about epic literally paying other companies off), but that to me is being upset at the same thing I said in that quote. Being mad at Nintendo for locking their games into their platform.

Which to just prove my point, I just used the Bethesda launcher to play Doom Eternal and I also regularly use Epic's launcher to play Unreal Tournament. Two great games I enjoy and would not be playing if I spited myself by writing either company off entirely.

From Hardware Unboxed noticed that Turing performance is a bit odd.
2060 and 2070 are considerably slower than their Super versions. 2060 is barely faster than 1660 Ti, which is bizarre.

My 7970 is still working today at 1200MHz. Bought it on release day, back in 2012/01. Best card I've ever owned. It ran at max clocks all the time for many years (till I bought the 980ti) without a single issue, driver related or otherwise.

don't the supers have superior memory & bandwidth?

there was an article where they transplanted 2080S memory to a 2080ti & it was 10-15% faster on avg?

Best R0ach Quote of all time : TLDR: Haswell might be the last legit gaming platform unless mice get their own non-USB interface on some newer architecture.

That could be part of it, 2060S has a significant memory bandwidth advantage (+ the extra 2GB) over 2060, for instance.
That said, 1660 Ti, having same amount of VRAM and worse bandwidth than 2060, performs nearly identical as 2060 in 1440p and (!!!) outperforms 2060 in 1080p in Hardware Unboxed testing.

The testing they do looks quite good - good loop with enemies and action involved. Seems like something odd on idTech 7 side here.

the 2060 super is a whole other chip GT106(1920 : 120 : 48) /GT104( 2176 : 136 : 64).

compared to the 1660ti GT116(1536 : 96 : 48) the 2060 non super had ~25% more cores/tex units but the same ROPs. it isn't a wonder that some games/resolutions would show little difference. those cards are junk.

Remember the golden rule of statistics: A personal sample size of one is a sufficient basis upon which to draw universal conclusions.

*Looks over sadly at the MSI Lightning GTX 680 box* :-(

One of my biggest PC regrets is getting that hunk of junk with fancy VRMs over the 7970.

And also is a big influence on why I have a Red Devil 5700.

I find it odd how 2070S is so much faster than 2070. They have the same memory.

Core config is 2560 @ 1770 for 2070S vs 2304 @ 1710

That would be ~ 7.88 Tf vs 9.06 Tf ~ 15% difference.

Based on the benchmark there: 133/112 = 19% difference.

Actually scaling should be in the 10% range.
