Yup, and when BF4 hit it got worst, much worst. They've even figure out how to tweak the servers to make them appear as "populated" when they aren't. Have bots, etc. That's suppose to be against TOS. But at this point Dice/EA don't care.

I mean, you can still run dedicated servers. Pretty sure you can still do an onprem CSGO server, KF2, L4D, and more... I have a bunch of dockers on my unRAID server that I could start up, but I have no friends lol. The idea was to just get them ready for if I ever hosted a LAN party again. Even setup a lancache server, but might disable it for the time being as it is only the two of us using it for now.

i assume the answer is gonna be "cost savings by no longer building that section of each release out"

I think it would be the opposite. It has to be costing them more money not having dedicated servers. Back in the day game servers were all run by third parties. The publisher only had to provide servers for a short period until the game became popular enough for the third party servers to pop up. I rented multiple Tactical Ops:Aot game servers....god...it's been almost 20 years now...eeek.

Since this is a Free-2-Play game, shadow banning and locking them into a cheaters pool accomplishes very little in mitigating the cheaters.
The cheaters are aware when they become shadow banned and so they simply make a new account and rinse and repeat.

For this reason, Shadow banning is practically useless unless the cheaters are paying $60 a pop to come back which in this scenario isn't the case.

I think they won't know they are matching with cheaters, it's all ninja style

I like to have fun.

Unfortunately that isn't the case. It becomes blatantly obvious when they are shadow banned. They should just HWID ban them which is far more effective. Yes you can buy HWID spoofers but they are expensive and that becomes another financial burden to the cheaters.

i've always liked that idea, but hardware banning is TOO effective, we need those repeat sales, Jim! You think maintaining a fleet of Bentleys for your whole family comes cheap?!

Some cheaters are interested in playing against other cheaters. I think WarOwl even made a video about this some time ago.
