[EuroGamer] DICE to move on from Battlefield 5 after summer update

Quote:
DICE will move on from Battlefield 5 after a summer update, it's said.

The current Battlefield 5 chapter, Into the Jungle, wraps up on 29th April, and DICE will release one more standalone update - targeted for June - before moving on to focus on new projects.

This summer update will include "some new content, weapons, and game tweaks", DICE said, but there will be no new chapter.

In a tweet, DICE clarified that after this summer, Battlefield 5 will not receive any new maps, weapons or factions.
Source: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...-summer-update

The article doesn't tell the whole story, which is that BF5 was supposed to get a lot more content but it's been a flop so EA is giving up on it early, and considering this game was supposed to be an example of how their "live service" model should work, seems like a pretty big slap in the face to anyone who bought the game based on the promises of future content. Hopefully EA will learn from this but I seriously doubt it. BF5 is the most disappointing game I can think of in any recent times.

This game was going to be a live service? Wasn't aware of that, pretty stupid though.
These games are known to be replaced every year or 2 so making it a live service is a turn off.
Hence games like 76, Elder Scrolls and now Battlefield failed.
You can't just turn your franchise into a live service, especially ones that are loved so much.

I like to have fun.

EA has a tremendously loyal BF4 fanbase - But we are still waiting for a successor to BF4 that keeps all the stuff we've come to love about that game. So long as it doesn't have microtransactions, even if it costs me $120 to buy, I would be first in line for it.

Many of us have tried the more recent BF games and gone back to the old standby. Seriously it's become almost like the CS:S of massive multiplayer FPS gaming where many servers are full with a waiting queue to get on, 7 years after release.

The people making these decisions have very little understanding of the fanbase, only the returns.
I'd also argue that most making these decisions arent very intune with the gaming world at all...they slid into being execs, account managers or whatever at these large publishing companies when the companies started to shift from being industry ran to MBA ran.

I'm one of those BF4 people. I can't get into any new battlefield game i play for a week and then never again. If i could find good servers in Australia i would still play.
It's always just Lockers 24/7...

I don't disagree. AEK 4 lyfe lol.

Only kidding - I see a lot of overuse of the AEK and it seems like a crutch for lack of skill/lack of squad coordination. I love my L86A1/AWS personally.

whole shooting mechanic is not balanced, not picking out particular weapons

BF1 is the peak of entire series

BFH is the peak of fun for entire series (has severe balance issues though)

This series has become, at least BFV, a new scheme from EA to experiment on for $ making. Lets see: live service, firestorm, boin currency? Its no longer a gaming series, just another means to extract $ from gamers. My wish is for the series to burn down and become a new with actual leadership.
