Does it matter ? Maybe not, for example if the market you are targeting is mainstream non-enthusiast PC Gamers, the Steam stats may actually be fairly representative of the overall population.
PC gaming "enthusiasts" don't use Steam?

That was debunked once it was made known that they were counting multiple accounts from oversea cafe's using the same computer (China, etc). I wouldn't touch a steam hardware survey with a 10 foot pole.

yeah, steam survey has never made any sense to me personally. Specially when you'd look at JUST America.

They'd have you believe 67% of us are gaming on Core 2 DUOs with GT450s & 2GB of ram., then another 30% of people game with NO GPU at all, not even iGPU. n 3% are on literal toasters.

OEM gaming computers are as common in the house as a $1,000 iphone these days. That's kinda what the whole RGB Puke revolution marked. PC gaming being dead is a narrative. It's anything but if you just take the time to look around. The kids man, the kids. There are like 30% more of them than the previous generation, and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more of them game now.

There's just so much stuff to sell people in the segment after re-monetizing & accessorizing intellectual property.

The information is tempting but my goodness. $ 27,500 per 6 months?

Do we have any other free stats like Steam's?

Had there been any leaks of the JPR stat? I remember NPD had a monthly leak before.

If they're even counting China's rental market then that's amazing as that could potentially be a lot of people. From what I can remember in Asia, rental shops are very common there and most play multiplayer like mmorpgs, cs, mobas, but I'm really wondering if smartphones are about to significantly shrink that market.

I wish we had better stats that are free or cheaper.

On an anectdote, I expected most using macbooks in the US with IGPs since I see most younger students using them.

I'm surprised with UHDs being much lower there. Is Steam not popular with macbooks?

you can find summaries of the quarterly reports here:
https://www.jonpeddie.com/press-releases/

Remember the golden rule of statistics: A personal sample size of one is a sufficient basis upon which to draw universal conclusions.
