I'm sure it's not hard to get a bunch of 2d indie games to run on Linux.

Yeah many titles are negligible compared to Windows and even run smoother than DX11. Some Windows users are using DXVK to avoid odd stuttering on their AMD GPUs with DX11.

Here's my Titan RTX at stock with my 9900k @ 4.6Ghz in 3DMark. The GPU score is pretty much the same as Windows at stock.

I don't think the point is about how hard it is, but rather about how it's better for the PC ecosystem if there are actual alternatives.

Exactly, speed up the adoption of Linux also includes the adoption of Vulkan. Which means we'll be able to enjoy titles on multiple platforms.

Linux is never going to be a serious alternative to windows for gaming and this initiative by valve won't change that. If you look at the list of games there are hardly any that would sell a lot of copies, if any. I seriously doubt this list will grow to the point where it has a serious line up. Valve has been at this for a decade now and it never works.

Just noticed Feral Interactive ported War Hammer II in April: https://www.feralinteractive.com/en/games/warhammer2tw/

I think the best way to game on Linux is by using passthrough. While Wine and DXVK are great there are still a lot of problems that aren't worth it to me, and in many cases GPU acceleration just doesn't work well (rendering).

The best way to game on Linux/Mac is to support developers that make native titles. I stopped buying DX titles and moved to only purchasing Vulkan Linux titles.

Consumers dictate the trends.

Agreed, sadly there are few Linux native games and publishers focus on the lowest denominator: consoles and as the XBox runs Win 10 it's very hard to get them to port to Linux.
