As much as I want to say "I think so", I'm not so sure. Sony has a habit of creating inspiring projects, while Microsoft's are generally lukewarm. This might be because Sony is first a theater/movie company, even if in recent years Playstation has become what they're known for.

Not saying you're wrong, but I'll reserve judgement for when it happens.

Not really, Sony has always been an electronics manufacturer. I guess you're too young to have owned one of these.

Wasn't really bothered by Microsoft's teases since I've already paced myself that both will do slowly milked events across 2020.

On a sheer graphical settings standpoint, I think it's a given that MS will have that in the bag because they can show off their new high budget first party games with the highest end PC and it won't be misleading. They pretty much develop DX too.

I'd love for Gears to finally evolve with better mobility and verticality.

I really think they've learnt their lesson with the reveal window of Xbox One.

I don't think microsoft's first party devs are as good as sony's to be honest. Santa Monica sets the bar IMO. God of War on ps4 to me was an incredible feat. Besides being a great game it looked amazing, gave the feel of no loading even when fast traveling (even though the doors were a loading screen). I think naughty dog or santa monica will set the bar for this generation.

Microsoft has been getting quite a few people to jump ship from ND and Sony Santa Monica. I'm sure one of the goals when Microsoft started their studio "The Initiative" was to leech talent from Sony, though there's probably more than just Sony in the Santa Monica area.
You can see the same strategy in effect with Ubisoft setting up a studio in Stockholm, or CIG (Star Citizen) opening in Frankfurt basically just for the sake of accommodating former developers from Crytek. At CIG Austin there were many people jumping back and forth between Blizzard and CIG.

Talented people have a habit of hopping between studios.

Currently, I agree but it could just be mere exposure effect with how nice and frequent their GDCs are. They kinda feel next level but maybe because Microsoft Studios are being distracted by multi-player development thus being a jack of all trades in the era move other bigger fps, tps mp games. Sony's instead focusing on animations, cinematics, more realistic visuals.

I personally rank Guerrilla and ND about Santa Monica but it's probably not much.

Very impressed with Bend's graphics with Days Gone with Unreal Engine and it's their first big project. I was hoping Sony would give [email protected] another chance but who knows. Maybe next gen?

I just keep coming back to Uncharted 4 animations and AI partner interaction videos and I think they're top notch. I think Ubi AC/For Honor and Square's Final Fantasy are pretty high up there too.

Sony's really solidified their niche with movie games and is only going to be a stronger force in the future as the entire human race will soon be capable of basic gaming and movie games, easily consumable, one and done, like a movie and can be palate cleansers from all the competitive multi-player scene.

I think MS just needs to be given time to buy more studios or publish more games. Or not. They've got everything else almost locked down.
