[Kotaku] Microsoft closing Mixer, moving content to Facebook Gaming

https://kotaku.com/microsoft-is-shut...o-f-1844121968

Can't say we didn't see this coming.

Wonder what will happen to the money and contracts that MSFT had with Ninja and Shroud etc; It's funny MSFT paid them millions for them to now go back to Twitch? lol

where do you think candy crush came from?

gaming and facebook have been synonymous since farmville. imo, if zynga hadn't had such horrible customer service (along with a few dick moves) they would have monopolized FB gaming and been raking in some serous cash now. people were spending thousands of dollars on "free to play" flash based games.

Remember the golden rule of statistics: A personal sample size of one is a sufficient basis upon which to draw universal conclusions.

Me either. I also never had the urge to pay money to watch someone else play video games.

monopoly money, and can likely easily be written off (as if it even mattered)

they were in it for the child data points.

Yes it was Ninja, Shroud and couple of others streamer. From what was said Ninja and Shroud will not be moving to Facebook, they will paid the full contract, 30M and 10M respectively, and become free of the contracts.

Hard to believe. Facebook gaming was one of the originals with farmville that your grandma probably still plays and has logged hundreds of hours into. Candy crush, tons of others.

Mixer was in the "big" news if you're not into gaming. It was on ESPN, business insider, CNN, forbes, just to name a few. Actually almost impossible to not hear about it as it was mentioned in news titles for those websites.

Anyway. This is going to be interesting to see where Ninja, Shroud, and the other guys go. Facebook Gaming allows their streamers to stream on other websites under their contracts. Since they have been released from their Mixer contracts, I wonder if they'll go the Facebook/Youtube Gaming streaming. I don't know if Youtube allows streaming to other services under their contracts or not. Facebook has really grown over the years as a place to watch streams.

Misinformation should be a thing of the past. This is the age of information. You are obligated to accept facts and do proper research which is readily available to all. Become better, humanity.

Quote:
Gaming is already part of our social fabric, and Project xCloud can take you from discussing a new game – whether it’s a funny in-game moment posted by a friend, an ad, or an ongoing stream – directly to playing it. In the future, through the power of Xbox Live and Project xCloud, we see there being just one click between “I’m watching” and “I’m playing.”
It really sucks for the streaming community, but it's fairly easy to understand that integration with the Facebook ecosystem will go a long way toward giving xCloud some serious global reach.

Mixer may have been a sacrificial offering to keep Stadia off of Facebook. It almost appears like Microsoft has locked Facebook into the Microsoft game streaming ecosystem, which by the way technically includes PSNow (https://www.tweaktown.com/news/65959...now/index.html).
Interestingly enough, given that Sony doesn't have their own streaming service either, it's practically guaranteed Playstation will include Facebook Gaming as "an option" for game streaming.

As Phil has said previously Microsoft is moving into the space where Amazon and Google are their main competitors, this is still mostly a play to crush Stadia, and if opinion around Stadia doesn't do a full 180 any time soon then I'd say Microsoft stands a very good chance of succeeding.
