Xbox one will hold devs back in this regard since they will be forced to keep making different assets for different LODs. It's a big waste of time. One of many reasons why it's a shame that xbox games are going to be forced to run on old hardware.

LODs are inherent to the way that 3D visuals have always been produced, the amount of extra work required to support weaker hardware is zero. The only change they make is prevent higher detail levels from loading on weaker systems.

UE5 is not locked to any generation of hardware, the new production features are implemented right down to mobile. UE5 is made to automate the distribution of all assets to all platforms and cull details accordingly.

Whatever penalty "Cross Generation" might have had, Epic Games is specifically focused on eliminating it.

I mean, i'll probably just buy both and let them gather dust haha.

But i do think halo looked terrible, though i've not played once since halo 2.

UE5 can scale sure because it can do everything an older engine can do but you won't see games ditching LODs on last gen hardware because it's not just a game engine thing, it requires next gen hardware. Forcing devs to keep making LODs to support old hardware when they would otherwise not have to is absolutely more work. I honestly don't know how you keep missing this.

Clearly you're just exercising willful ignorance right now.

The amount of extra work required to create LODs for weaker hardware is zero, the only change they make is prevent higher detail levels from loading on weaker systems.
When developers tune geometry levels for varying hardware power all they do is click plus or minus on the LOD scale until the game runs smoothly, or on PC they let YOU optimize the LODs for your hardware by choosing the render distance setting yourself.

its almost as if most of the major leased/licensed out engines have been hyper focused on streamlining, & scalability for the last 5+ years.

Add me on Steam, same name

MS is smart. They know they will make more money off of Game Pass then they ever would with selling consoles. So locking people into a system with a profit margin so slim that they will sell them at a loss is just stupid.
