Taking a break from Halo after Reach would've been nice to give the IP a break, and then do another trilogy after 2-3 years have passed since Reach was released. I mean, Destiny was basically a Halo influenced title that could've curbed the Halo burnout. I always imagined MS buying out Bungie, but I guess not. Big loss there, IMO.
They did. Its exhausting working on the same stuff over and over again.

Keep in mind Microsoft was a very different company back then, and thank goodness Bungie did split instead of making Halo 4 because there's no way it would have been as good as the original trilogy either way, and with 343i taking the fall for the Halo 4/5 it leaves Bungie's reputation in the clear, had it been Bungie pumping out less than stellar games people might have lost respect for the whole franchise.
Not that Destiny was smooth sailing either, that was a real "Out Of The Fry Pan, Into The Fire" situation.
Looking at Destiny actually legitimizes 343's efforts as well, both franchises are now sitting at almost exactly the same point (perpetual development on a single title with no plans for a sequel).

I think most AAA games in a series should be 3 + years. Its clear that making these large scale games with nice eyecandy is getting harder and harder yet a lot of publishers want the games out even sooner and will not except a delay what so ever (although this seems to be changing a little with some publishers). A good example would be BF4. That game really needed another 6 months of polish at least. it was released in a completely broken state. BF4 was released 2 years after BF3 (2013). BF1 while not my favorite BF it was fairly stable and polished at launch. It was the first BF game that I played that didnt feel like a buggy mess (I came in around BF3) BF1 launched 3 years after BF4's launch (2016). From what I have heard BFV didnt even have 2 years of development time and it really showed. BF6 or whatever it is called is having basically everyone at DICE working on solely that and theyll have around 3 years of actual development time. Im not saying its going to be a great game (been burned too many times by them) but i am hopeful because im pretty sure EA/DICE know if they mess it up that series will take a nap for a while and i wouldnt be shocked if some of the higher ups at DICE are finally let go. While not every game studio is like DICE having at least 3 years to develop and polish a game seems like a very good idea. I really hope studios/developers just push more content to current games and live off of cosmetics and the like until they actually having a finished product. Getting so so tired of waiting months for a game to be in a state it should have been at launch

Halo:CE, 2, 3 and Reach are the ones you should play, all Bungie Halo games are pretty darn good, 343's...Not as much.

As someone who isn't a console pleb full of nostalgia, I've been playing through MCC with my friend on legendary. Reach was horrible and I only continued on the promise from my friend that the rest of the titles would be better. CE was a blast. 2, so far, has been a very mixed bag. I've yet to play 3 (or later, obviously), but if what I've seen so far is any trend, its very clear that all this fighting over which late installment was worse than the other is pretty meaningless. CE was the best halo and they only seem to get worse with each release.

On a side note, Halo CE's graphics remaster is... strange. The art direction and atmosphere are completely different. Shame really, as original CE was beautifully moody while remaster's technically superior (obviously, its had a decade to improve) graphics have none of the atmosphere nor charm of the original.

Applying all that to Halo Infinate, whine all you like, it presumably can't be worse than the titles that lead up to it.

Funny, my experience with Reach campaign was the opposite. I didn't like it much when it came out because I found the story so lame and disappointing, but I've really enjoyed replaying it now that Halo lore is FUBAR and I no longer care about it. A lot of the levels and encounters have been really fun.

I think all of Bungie's campaigns have aged quite well.

I don't like either the CE or the H2 remaster graphics... The style on both is too great a departure from the original for me, and I don't like that they obscure the original geometry in some cases so that gameplay is harmed.

This game being a live service, Infinite is on a 10 yr plan, I expect a graphic upgrade sooner rather than later. Also, @ least multiplayer is free.

This is a big point I think. Games with free multiplayer tend to be less graphically intense so they can expand their playerbase. What's the point in making a game F2P if you just alienate a large number of potential players by requiring high end hardware?

Probably not the entire reason but it's a consideration.

im concerned with the multiplayer being free to play is how they are going to handle cheating.
