Any 4k media players that can do SMB?

I have a vehement disinterest in using things like Plex to serve my media. I'd rather just have a player where I can go and see my SMB shares and have my list of files. I don't care about thumbnails or descriptions. Does anyone make anything like this yet, or should I just build a small HTPC and use explorer like I do on my desktop?

You can build a HTPC with a AMD Athlon 200GE (35W tdp) the Vega 3 IGP that can decode 4k easily. Has hardware support for HVEC, VP9 and HDR and cost only 50u$D

I7 8700K@4.7Ghz / Z370-A / 2X8GB 3200Mhz ADATA Spectrix D40 / 1TB Intel 600P / EVO 850 250GB / 4TB WD Gold / RTX 2080 GAMING OC / NZXT Noctis 450 ROG / EVGA G2 850W@ECO
Heatkiller REV 3.0 / XSPC EX360 / DDC 3.25 + EK-XRES / 3x Venturi HF-12 PWM

Can something like that even handle MadVR? I don't know of any other way to get HDR done.

I think it can. I only tested a couple of 4K H265 files and play perfect without frame skipping and have some IGP power left because during playback usually hovers around 50 - 60% depending on the file

EDIT: According to this review it can play HDR https://androidpctv.com/review-amd-athlon-200ge/

My desktop with a 1050 doesn't even really handle it...

The reviewer didn't mention the setting or if he is using madvr. But there is another option for example MPC-BE can play 4K HDR without MadVR.

I had some sort of issues with MPC-BE that makes it a no-go for me. I believe I couldn't force ffdshow's audio filter to connect to what MPC-BE decoded, while I can do this with MPC-HC...

This has diverged too far from the original topic. My question about a hardware player that does what I mentioned...does it exist?
