RAM clearance

Hi,

I've got a couple big air coolers now, Phanteks and Noctura that I know cause issues with tall RAM for clearance.

Having Googled the topic some other users on another forum suggested Thermalright Le Grande Macho RT as being the best cooler with ZERO clearance issues irrespective of how tall the RAM being installed is.

Are there any other coolers that anyone here knows of that would be as good as Le Grande Macho or very close?

I know some of the DDR3 / DDR4 I've got such as Corsair Dominator / Corsair Vengeance are too tall to use with the big air coolers.

Of course Corsair LPX (low profile)_&_ some Kingston Hyper X brands are low profile so there is no problem.

There are some motherboards that have RAM

Most twin-towers with only middle fan will clear RAM.

I have measured many motherboards and scaled measurement center CPU to RAM and center CPU to near side of 16x PCIe on many more to figure out their clearances.

Eh....neither of those is low profile. They are both standard height. Big non-functional ornamental heatsinks are not standard height. Low profile RAM looks like the Samsung on the right:

Ciarlatano made a good point. 'Normal' height DDR4 RAM is 31.35-31.40mm tall including contacts on it lower edge. Almost all of the so called 'heatspreaders' on RAM does nothing .. no additional cooling from it at all.

I've been told Vengeance Low Profile RAM is 26.25mm tall, and Crucial Ballisticx Sport is 19mm tall.

OK you guys know the tech which is good.

I get the point that what Corsair call low profile is LPX (unless I've mis-understood)_but which means the heat sink on LPX is just smaller than the heat sinks on Corsair Dominator hence the LPX marketing and underneath those heat sinks large or small would be standard RAM that is between 31.35 - 31.40 mm tall.

Below is DDR4 RAM size specificatiions. Anything bigger is usually on this size PCB. There are a few shorter RAM with shorter PCB being sold. Hope that clears things up.

I assume Macho Rev. B, which performs as well or better than all Mugen coolers except maybe Mugen Max which is maybe a degree cooler.

Ah yes. It's closer to the Macho Direct. But it's still "only" 1.5 degrees higher compared to the LGM RT.

If you're worried about RAM clearance, it's really the best choice, especially for the price.

We can also wait for the Fuma 2 and see what that offers.
