@clannagh what @Shenhua said. This case only has the one fan vent so that fan is pulling air into, through and then out of case. End result is lots of pressure differential between it's intake and exhaust so needs to be high pressure rated.
I haven't tried copying massive amounts yet, though I'll make sure to come back when I have. At any rate these kinds of controller chips are not the kind that likes to be hot (like memmory) so I don't think the heatsinks are hurting. Don't know if they help either yet, so I'll have to update you on that.

Still, with the NF-S12A ULN fan replaced by the Eloop I do notice better airflow, though I am uncertain if it's due toi the higher RPM of the fan or due to it's better performance characteristics.

Finally ended up copying large files again (roughly 500gb this time), and the issue is still there. It takes longer for it to happen, but it's there so maybe heat was one of the issues.

At any rate swapping the S12 for the Eloop has had some massive benefits as far as air flow is concerned, though taping of the sides of the case also helped immensly.
