Looking for advice on cpu air cooling solution

I’m not interested in water cooling solutions so please don’t start posting about AIO’s or CLC systems etc. I am trying to find out what cpu coolers are available so I can look at them and decide on which to purchased based on a few factors including but not limited to size, shape, cost, looks, performance, availability, how it fits in relation to ram VRM heat sinks GPU etc.

Seems everyone is convinced the Noctua NH-D15 is the “cats meow” It looks horrendously huge but the chromemax does not look so bad. Are there any other cpu air coolers that can hold a candle to the D15 but cost less? Noctua is rumored to have a new D16 on the way and Zelman is suppose to have one that performs better than the D15 but is nowhere to be had.

Others I have seen listed for significantly less but know nothing about how they perform.

MSI CPU Cooler, Silver/Black (Core Frozr L)

Scythe Ninja 5 120mm Air CPU Cooler

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler

Fans:

It seems Noctua makes good fans with lots of cfm while remaining quiet. Same question applies to fans as well, are there other fan alternatives that perform as good with same noise levels as the Noctua’s but don’t cost so much. I’m looking to get a new pc case and might want to replace the fans on a cpu cooler or pc case depending on the performance of the fans That come with what I purchase. I think I’ll start a different thread asking for suggestions on the pc cases. Looking at the Lian Li Lancool 2 mesh which is not released yet.

The motherboard I will be using is MSI’s X570 Unify with 3800x & EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 Gaming. I have not decided on ram yet so making sure everything fits and works together is another thing I have to consider.

none of the coolers you listed will perform as well as a D15. if you want something smaller then consider the NH-U12A. Top end air coolers tend to be large.

if you want cheap, quiet and better than the stock cooler then have a look at arctic cooler esports 34 DUO

That is one varied list of coolers.....were they cars it would read:

Bentley
Honda Civic
VW Atlas
Yugo

If you want something in the same class as the D15, you would be looking at the Cryrig R1 Ultimate, Thermalright LGMRT, Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4, Phanteks TC14PE. If you want something a step down, there are a number of options there. But, the case and it's size limitations will play a huge factor in the decision.

Yeah....the little girl hentai avatar is really creeping me out....

As you can see from my list, I have no idea how any of these perform compared to each other. I’ll take a look at some of those coolers you mentioned. Thank you.

Also thanks to DAM20 and poah

There are several more top tier coolers than ciarlatano listed. One of the very best for $50 is Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140 Power, Silver Arrow, Silver Arrow SB-E, Silver Arrow IB-E and a few more. Others to consider are be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, DeepCool Assassin II and Assassin III, Scythe Fuma II, and list goes on. But those are only the ones that cool as wll as NH-D15. There are about 40 others only 4-6c warmer and a few dB louder too.

Thank you for that list of cpu coolers. Now I have some homework to do

Are any of these you listed above performing as good as the D15 with same decibel noise levels?

It does not look like the Silver Arrow SB-E, Silver Arrow IB-E are options at this point as they all stores show out of inventory.

Most are within a few degrees and a few dB. D15 was never the King, but one of at last a dozen others with similar performance and noise levels.
TRUE Spirit 140 Power is easily as good as D15 both cooling and noise level, and costs about $50 when D15 is $90
