HTPC cooler

What would be a good low profile cpu cooler for Fx-8350 125w? I have a max of 50mm for a cpu cooler. My AMD wraith cooler is too big.

What ciarlatano said.
Helps us be able to suggest coolers that will fit.

Air coolers are out of the question. None are both small enough and also able to cool a 125W FX 8350. You MIGHT get away with an NH-L9a and heavy undervolting but at that point you'd be better off with a 95W FX 8300 but even that is probably too much for a tiny air cooler. 65W seems to be the limit of the NH-L9a.

The case can only fit 92mm fans => you'd need either a 92mm AIO (and that wouldn't really be able to cool the CPU either) or to mod the case.

You could potentially replace the NH-L9a 14 mm fan with a noctua 25mm NF-A9 and it "might" still fit in the case. However there ar reports it may perform worse:

https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comme...ests_extended/

( one potential issue is even if the fatter fan fits you would be reducing the clearance above the fan to pull air in)

While I agree with rares495 about your case solection extremely limiting your options, I wouldn't waste time and money on a CLC (most AIOs are really CLCs). VSK200 U3 only has 65mm CPU clearance and cooler needs at least 15mm clearance for air to flow into cooler fan which means cooler has to be les than 50mm tall. NH-L9A will not cool it as it only has 2x heatpipes. Even coolers that will are being severly limited by your choice of cases with only 1x 92mm of case airflow. Coolers that might work if case flow enough air at room temp to them are Cryorig C7 (97x97x47mm w/ 4x 6mm heatpipes TDP 100w), Alpenfohn Black Ridge (120x120x47mm (fan under finpack) w/ 6x 6mm heatpipes.

But honestly, if you could return that case and get one that has better airflow you will be much better off.

Thanks doyll. I was aware that there might be a few better alternatives to the Noctua but my knowledge of "exotic" or smaller brands is very limited. Thanks again for the two tiny coolers that I will definitely add to my list.

To add insult to injury, that one 92mm fan appears to have obstructions to overcome as well. The C7 will cool an 8350 as you say.....but not without airflow. I can't see more than a Celeron or Ryzen 3 possibly working in there. But, that case was intended for office use, which typically has a low wattage CPU.
