I can't wait to get my Z390 system so I could suffer as well. Windows 10 users sure do live busy lives.

This is the 3rd major issue i have had with Windows 10 in less than a year which is more than i have had with Windows 7 ever since it came out
I hate Windows 10 and the APM bug is especially infuriating and is still the most annoying thing i have ever had to deal with

Dont know where i will place this problem with the Killer but its in the top 3 for sure
And why Z390 when Zen 2 will be out July 7?

Custom OS images do provide better experience... assuming you don't run the ancient system (my Z77 is meh with it). But those custom images also tend break stuff you don't really wanna break, so it needs lots of testing before you even get to the point where it is usable for you.
Then you have MS screwing up drivers and whatnot.

There's a custom tool for managing windows 10 updates manually, might worth a look. Called Windows Update MiniTool, not sure if it's being updated still, also Windows Update Manager that is similar and updated.
No links since I'm not sure mods will appreciate me linking to MDL here.

It is a gaming system so Intel is a surefire way for me to get a system that will mostly just work. Some people tend to get plenty of performance issues with ryzen in older games. When Zen 2 is out and tested, maybe I will take a look at it. There's no rush.
Also afaik AMD uses ASMedia for usb which I don't want to use ever again.

Windows update in background downloading, etc. you can see all the traffic in networking monitoring tools. There are several downloading mechanism in Windows and they get used for updates etc. you can throttle, schedule, disable, all that on any Win Pro even on Home.

Unless of course you have some weird networking drivers installed, or it updated to them on it's own when you allowed it to.

The APM for HDDs... read about that and checked it before but never had the need to change from default values. Depends on what HDDs one has and how they are used.

I avoid Killer networking chips until their reputation gets good.
