There are probably enough who remember how it was before MS and Intel standardized computing and made it so basically all computers could work with each other and triple A software and hardware could be profitably made due to a largely unified mass market.

Not that I'm against competition, I just don't mind the dominance of windows since it has done much more good than harm, and MS seems pretty benevolent for holding a near monopoly. They could have done all sorts of stuff to quash the competition and seem to be taking the road of trying to be better at bringing the general market what it wants.
Worrying about legal action likely played a role in this, but the net results exist nonetheless and I don't see a change in the balance of power of govts vs MS that would indicate any drastic increase in anti consumer or anti competitive practices on the part of MS.

And I don't have a problem with people preferring Linux, or with admitting that most of those Linux users likely know much more about software than I. But I will stick with the easiest version of Windows that does what I want because I would rather spend my tinkering time budget on hardware stuff.
