Need some help building a PC

Hello guys!! I hope this is the right place to place this question. A buddy of mine recently gave me his old desktop PC it was only missing a hard drive and a CPU cooler. I went ahead and ordered a monitor keyboard, mouse, and a two TB western digital hard drive. Once I connected everything together I wasn't getting a signal to the monitor. We messed with it and still couldn't get it to work so I took it and got it diagnosed. They said it was a bad GPU. So when I picked up my computer they had left the test GPU inside my rig. I thought now I could at least install Windows while I waited for my new GPU (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 128 Bit PCI-E Graphic Card (GV-N1050OC-2GD). my keyboard is a wireless one and I noticed that it wasn't working on my pc. It worked on my other laptops but no power was going to the mouse. I even tried with a wired mouse that had a light on it. So my "friend" said that the motherboard was probably bad and he recommended me a new one ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) a Gigabyte AMD AM3+ / ATX / 4xDDR3/ HDMI/Realtek ALC892/ 2xPCIE/ 8xUSB 2.0 / 4xUSB3.1 Gen 1/ LAN/Motherboard - 78LMT-USB3 R2 well little did I know that there are different types of CPUs to go with different Motherboards. The original motherboard was a ( https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard...UD3L-rev-23#ov ). Obviously, the CPU doesn't fit into this one. Sorry for my long story but my main question is should I look for another LGA 1156 socket motherboard and try and keep this CPU (I'm sure it's probably very old and outdated) or just get a new motherboard and CPU? I'm leaning with the new but I honestly don't know what to get. I'll be using it for a little gaming like Farmville and candy crush.... lol JK JK!! also if I do get the new motherboard with new CPU I think it safe to say that my DDR ram will also be no good and have to buy new ram. I was wondering if you guys could recommend me a motherboard for around 50-70$ and a decent but not that expensive CPU and some good ram maybe like 8 gigs..... I thank you guys for reading this and look forward to hearing from you.
