This one is weird, I wonder exactly what went on with this one:

[TPU] Microsoft Halts Windows 10 October Update Rollout Yet Again, Affects Only Some Intel Users

Microsoft has blocked rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update on systems using Intel Integrated Graphics with specific driver versions. Apparently audio playback, when using a monitor connected to the IGP, will no longer work after the upgrade to October Update.

According to Microsoft, the underlying reason for the issue is that "Intel inadvertently released versions of its display driver [...] to OEMs that accidentally turned on unsupported features in Windows."

If you want to work around this, then check your Intel driver version using GPU-Z. If you see "" or "", just upgrade your graphics drivers and you should be good to go.

"accidentally turned on unsupported features in Windows"

So, Microsoft told Intel that certain features would come with the October Update, Intel worked on their drivers to take advantage of them, then Microsoft couldn't make it work in time, told Intel, but Intel had already released the drivers or forgot to remove said features and Microsoft didn't properly check what kind of drivers they were putting in Windows Update?

Whatever the reason, updating the OS with new features every six months is good to project onto customers the pretence that an OS can be a service instead of a product, but it's not so good when it comes to the actual OS. I wonder if Microsoft will ever hear the feedback that is coming from all corners to switch to a yearly feature update. They say they listen, but as of yet they have proven that they are still doing whatever is written in the plan.
