If the EEPROM is removable you can buy an updated EEPROM for ~$15 on eBay too but some are soldered so just double check first. Fairly sure the vast majority of 1151 are socketed though. My Z170 was socketed and I had to do something similar.
What was the business about extra power pins added to the socket for 9th gen 8-core processors? Isn't that one of the things they added to Z390 boards?
