That's not the whole part of the story
The Vega 64LC for example, which costs actually quite a bit more then the normal one - had a better die with a different bios
(taking into consideration the cost push for the AIO over the normal 64)
It genuinely was a better card to OC where people bought it only because of the die and put their own custom plates on

But you are right on the "special edition" price push
We can just look at the 50th Anniversary Ryzen or Radeon 7 gpu
no changes, no binning - nothing , but higher cost
