Nice to see people are still watching this thread. Based on your post, I did a search on Intel's Ark database and found the i5-6400T. I think this will serve me for quite a while and the 35W TDP is decent; should be fairly easy to cool even in a 1U. Would you happen to know a decently-priced mini-ITX board? It doesn't need dual-LAN because I'll be adding a quad-port NIC anyway.

EDIT:
mini-itx.com seems to be a decent resource for all things mini-ITX.
