Regardless, I'm still safer using dated hardware. Not perfect, but better off.

I'd use anything online that's no newer than the Piledriver architecture for AMD chips. For Intel nothing newer than Pentium 4, Pentium M, maybe Core Solo/Core Duo, as those are the newest Intels that are safe to use cause they lack the Intel Management Engine. I understand that someday I may be left behind, as those that don't upgrade, but that is a consequence I am willing to accept. I'll retire from the internet.

I'm not really against the Spectre/Meltdown patches, but these are the last x86/x64 based computers i'll use. If anything i'll try some kind of safe open source hardware bundled with Linux someday.

Not all old computers are heat dumpers.

I see that Intel refused to patch some older chips, I don't know if they patched any earlier chips like the Pentium III or Pentium Pro, but I've heard nothing from AMD.
