there's some issues with using that as the gospel for drive reliability (they're not a consumer doing consumer things) but they do generally make good recommendations.
Do you need a single drive or would you be okay with two? You can get two 6TB drives for less than a single 12TB. You could always use software JBOD if you just want a single drive letter but you'd still need to set it up and have the room for it and it might just be an added headache for you.
Toshiba X300/P300/N300 drives are great and they're generally some of the cheapest drives in just about every capacity. My X300 is the first Toshiba drive I've owned and I've been happy with it, though my sample size of 1 isn't super helpful though.
