Artik, did you get some benches with that X800?

As for me, I've recovered from the Team Cup hangover smil3dbd4e4c2e742.gif and am gingerly easing my way back into AGP benching.

So back in the winter when it looks like I'd never score a 4CoreDual, I picked up an ASRock 775i65G as a possible alternative and posted this score.

I've since lucked into a 4CoreDual-SATA2 and am trying to beat it with DDR2 and a (slightly) faster overclock. Which is where it gets mildly interesting. I can't. Beat it, I mean.

The original score was with OCZ Platinum DDR-440 2-2-2-5 and even with the ostensibly higher bandwidth of the DDR2 (also low latency ram at 585 MHz, 3-4-4-12), I can't get within 400 points of it. I just found it striking how big a difference latency makes. All of the other hardware was identical. I probably shouldn't be so amazed by this (N00B!!) but I still think it's pretty cool.

So in the meantime I'm still mired out of the top 5 for the 4670 and haven't even benched the 3850 for realz yet. About all I've managed lately in AGP benching is killing my 9700! But I'm working on a pencil mod for the 4670 and already made hard mods to the 3850 (thanks Artik!! thumb.gif ) but need a better cooler if I don't want to kill it. Rage 128 Ultra, GeForce2 MX, and GeForce4 MX 440 are waiting in the wings...

[EDIT 7/26/13]

Ye gods, drivers are a pain. Have been working on getting the Radeon 7500 and GeForce2 MX working with the 4CoreDual and as usual, everything takes longer than you think it will... wink.gif

Benching again with some new toys. Creeping up in the 4670 rankings again with these:

More to come. Just getting started with the E5800 and pushing clocks on the 4670.

Need some more volts on that chip!! Also you don't have to run each test for the 3d Mark 01, only the game tests are needed for a score.

Yessir I do! Lands are all mapped for a vmod. Getting a circuit writer this week. Thanks for the tip on 3dm01. I had just been running at default.

I love you wubsmiley.gif

Sadly it's SO HOT in my room that my main rig is restarting itself due to overheat (and yes, it is fully watercooled). Even though I might just break it out again and bench a little bit too, because I found an old GF4200Ti in our shop that might soon have a new home... devil.gif

MrBreeze;

Might try using the 11 series video drivers, looking at macsbeach's score in O1 his setup has a lot going for it but is using the 12 drivers. Rasparthe is right for a 4670 you are going to need a lot more CPU, might test some of the older cards you mentioned were your existing clocks are more than enough and vid card mods are more important.

IMO ram selection is the most important point for a SATA2, I’ve tried three sets. Corsair DDR 400 CAS2 TCCD and two sets of Patriots, DDR2 800 CAS4 D9s and DDR2 1200 CAS5 2.4v. The 800s were useless the board doesn’t have enough voltage to make them pay attention without hard mods. The Corsairs were efficient, the 1200s have a default SPD at 333 CAS4 1.8v and will run without a hitch at 310 FSB 1:1, 3-3-3-7 1T at the max voltage supplied by the MB of 2.1v+/-. Playing have ran a few quick 2D benches at 319 and posted a couple of 3D benches at 315 with a stock board, (testing AGPs getting ready for winter, Enthusiast Paradise).

Artikbot;

Same problem best temps I've had in the garage 25c quit at 32c, wife won't let me in the house with my benching hardware, hate summer.

Aleslammer, thanks for the tips. I was sorry to see we lost you to classicplatforms over at the bot, awesome to get the benefit of your experience though. For my part, I've been finding that low latency DDR beats DDR2 every time as far as I can tell. But that's probably just because I can't get my FSB high enough.

And yeah, ambient sucks in the summer if you're on air or water. We should all move to Patagonia for the next 3 months. wink.gif
