Of course you need an active internet connection... to download the Work Units, it doesn't need to be a 24/24 connection though...
I'm already in a team, so I can't join...

Please remember that the CPU limit is 8 cores not 8 CPUs. If you're going to fold on both cores of a C2D, it'll count as two.
