Swapping to SFF

Hey everyone,

Currently I have an i7-6700k build and am looking to swap over to SFF. Honestly my question since I've been out of the game since buying the 6700k is should I take it with me to SFF or would it be more viable to just move on to a newer CPU. I'm open to both Intel/AMD.

Price wise it seems like a better option to move to a Ryzen build for the money vs a new 1151 MOBO.

Just curious as to what everyone's thoughts are that maybe have done the same thing.

How is it "price wise" a better option to go AMD? You can get a Z170 mini ITX board for $100 or a Z270 for $139, and ~half that if you're willing to buy used.

If you want to go AMD I'd suggest holding off until the 3000 series launches sometime this year.

Intel i9 9900K Coffee Lake @ X8 5309mhz (+47.5%)
AMD FX-8320 Vishera @ X4 5022mhz (+43.5%)
Intel i5 4690K Haswell @ X4 5013mhz (+43.2%)
AMD X4 960T Zosma @ X6 4870mhz (+62.3%)
Intel i7 6700 Skylake @ X4 4709mhz (+38.5%)
Intel i5 6400 Skylake @ X4 4588mhz (+69.9%)

Not really any point replacing the 6700k with anything at this point, from Intel or AMD. Theres options to go SSF while keeping the 6700k like the ITX boards mentioned by Pook.
If you want to go really small, then you will very likely run into temperature issues on that i7 unless you can still fit a decent sized air cooler (but then its not really SFF) or go with an AiO providing theres mounting space.

I would only swap that i7 for a Ryzen if you want to move into a tiny ITX system which is barely larger than a high end GPU, like HTPC style cases.
Do you have any sort of case in mind, what sort of size SFF do you want?
