Which processor choice?

Might wait for Threadripper 3. Might not. Don’t want to spend too much on a dedicated gaming rig, so should I just grab a 9th Gen i5, or a I7?

Wait for it. So worth the extra performance, if it's all what AMD says it is.

I'm assuming you meant Ryzen (3rd generation) and not Threadripper right? Threadripper would be a massive overkill expenditure for a gaming rig, so I'm just clarifying. If you are meaning Ryzen 3rd gen though I would definitely wait, especially if the 15% IPC icrease is true it would be a great all around chip that wouldn't limit you to just gaming but allow full multi-tasking purposes for whatever your needs/wants may be. Just my 2 cents
