New CPU or better motherboard

Hi, My PC is running a i7-6700K (4.0 Ghz) with an Asus B150M-A D3 Mobo, which can't be overclocked. I need you guys experts to guide me through this.

1- Buy a i7-8700 (4.6 Ghz) with the B150 motherboard.
2- Buy a friends almost new Asus Prime Z390-P and overclock my i7-6700K

Right now i don't have the budget to buy both the Z390-P and the i7-8700K. We are talking almost $500.00

16gb RAM
MSI GTX 1060 gaming X 6gb

Thanks for any advice.

Coffeelake is not backwards compatible with skylake motherboards and skylake cpus aren't compatible with 9th gen motherboards.

In 3 weeks time buy a ryzen 3600 and a b450 motherboard.

as mentioned, a 6700K would limit you to a Z170 or Z270 mobo each *officially* supports 6xxx and 7xxx cpus.

Z370/390 are for 8xxx and 9xxx cpus.

though with a 1060 graphics card, you're really not going to see a big improvement, as the card will be the bottleneck.

though finding a ~$80 or less for z170/270 mobo on ebay isn't bad, as there maybe more features you can use.

Remember the golden rule of statistics: A personal sample size of one is a sufficient basis upon which to draw universal conclusions.
Upload the computer to Dropbox and provide a link to it so others may download it to examine and give advice for repairs.
